18-year-old arrested in connection to multiple strong arm robberies
A teenager has been arrested in connection to multiple strong-arm robberies, including one that injured a 72-year-old woman in Bellevue.
BELLEVUE, Wash. - A teenager has been arrested in connection to a strong-arm robbery that injured a 72-year-old woman.
Court documents identify the suspect as 18-year-old Madden McGraw of Federal Way. Bellevue police tell FOX 13 he targeted vulnerable, elderly women in various robberies.
What we know:
On January 10, he allegedly attacked a woman in the 100 block of 108th Avenue North. Her family says she was leaving H-Mart and getting ready to get in her car when the attack happened.
"She already walks with a cane," said Aaron Lee. "So that makes her vulnerable to begin with. But the force that he used to knock her down really hurt her back."
"I honestly didn’t think they would catch him," said the victim’s daughter Sophie Lee.
During a show and tell, Bellevue police showed off all the items they confiscated from McGraw’s home.
Officers discovered numerous stolen credit and debit cards, over 30 sets of stolen keys, five stolen guns, and law enforcement equipment at McGraw's home. Police said many of the items belonged to multiple elderly female victims, suggesting McGraw worked with others to target vulnerable people - particularly elderly women.
"The detectives recovered all of this property, and we believe it's connected to many other crimes that have been committed in Bellevue and within the region," said Major Ellen Inman with the Bellevue Police Department. Inman.
Big picture view:
The Bellevue Police Investigations Division has linked McGraw to an assault involving a gun on Jan. 10.
"The totality of this leads us to believe that it is very apparent that the scope of the crime spree involving the suspect and other suspects was much bigger than we even originally believed," said Inman. "We believe he was working with other suspects targeting the elderly."
Police caught McGraw by paying attention to detail. Court documents show he was wearing a black jacket with a hole in the left arm that had some stuffing coming out of it. Surveillance video at a nearby mall captured him wearing that same jacket.

Police say McGraw also grabbed an 84-year-old woman's purse off her arm, knocking her to the ground in Lynnwood. Detectives say photos show McGraw and an accomplice used her credit cards, buying more than $1,200 worth of goods at Champs at the Bellevue Square Mall.
Detectives say they also committed several car prowls, including at casino parking lots and at Boeing in Renton.
King County prosecutors have charged McGraw's 15-year-old accomplice with multiple felony crimes, including:
- First-degree robbery
- 3 counts of second-degree identity theft
- Second-degree assault
- Second-degree robbery
McGraw is currently being held on $250,000 bail and faces multiple charges, including one count of first-degree robbery, one count of firearm theft, two counts of second-degree identity theft, five counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and eight counts of possession of stolen property.
The Bellevue Police Department is continuing its investigation into the case and McGraw.
