Ilona McCauley

Meteorologist

Ilona McCauley joined FOX 13 in December 2023. Ilona is a familiar face in Western Washington. Before coming to KCPQ, she was a meteorologist at KIRO 7 for 3 years and is also a substitute teacher in the Everett School District.

Before moving to Seattle in 2014, Ilona spent 14 years as a meteorologist at KVUE-TV in Austin, TX. Ilona covered a wide range of weather events there, including severe weather outbreaks, historic flooding and ice storms. She contributed to severe weather specials produced by KVUE-TV and also produced a commemorative story on the anniversary of the F5 tornado that hit Jarrell, TX in May 1997. In September 2005, one of the most active hurricane years in the U.S, Ilona traveled to Houston to cover Hurricane Rita as it moved onshore.

Ilona was first introduced to the Pacific Northwest shortly after graduating from college when she accepted a position as the morning meteorologist at KDRV in Medford, OR. Ilona immediately fell in love with the northwest! In fact, Ilona and her husband loved this area so much they travelled from TX to get married in Hood River, OR.

Ilona is a proud Wildcat earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Arizona and has a seal from the American Meteorological Society. Ilona also holds a teaching certificate in middle school science.

Ilona enjoys spending time with her husband, two girls and beloved rescue dog, Rudy. She is involved with the special needs community and loves watching their two girls play softball and volleyball.

Seattle Weather: Some "green" on the Radar for St. Patrick's Day

A nearby disturbance will keep scattered showers around for Monday.  Much like today, the showers will be spotty, except for the north sound where a convergence zone will set up increasing rain chances in that location.  Rainfall amounts throughout the day will range between .10" to close to an inch along the coastal region.  Light snow will fall in the mountains.  While there is no winter weather advisory in place, drivers should be prepared for some slick roads through the passes.

Seattle Weather: Late Season Winter Storm Brings More Mountain Snow

Another round of scattered showers to close out our weekend.  Lowland rain will ramp up overnight Saturday with showers lingering into Sunday.  Overall, Sunday will be more dry than wet, but there will be enough instability that we may see some more isolated storms with lightning, small hail and brief downpours of rain.

Seattle Weather: Showery End to the Weekend

An atmospheric river will sag southward into Western Washington, increasing rain chances by the afternoon in the lowlands.  Mountain snow will fall above 3500'. Rain may be moderate to heavy at times, especially near the coastal regions.   Rainfall will slowly taper by the evening except for a convergence zone along the King and Snohomish County line.

Seattle weather: Drier skies, afternoon highs nearing 60

After a breezy and wet afternoon on Tuesday, skies will dry out as the disturbance, and its associated cold front, exit western Washington during the day on Wednesday. By Wednesday night, skies will clear, allowing fog to form by Thursday morning.

Seattle Weather: A Return to Dripping Skies and More Normal Highs

After enjoying a few days of spring-like weather with sunnier, drier skies, a slight chance of showers returns to Western Washington beginning tomorrow.  Showers will generally be very light with amounts only totaling about .01-.15" over the next two days.
