KING COUNTY, Wash. - A judge in King County Superior Court sentenced 21-year-old Francisco Castro-Guzman to 10 years in prison for a freeway shooting that paralyzed a driver almost two years ago.
Castro-Guzman of Federal Way, pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges of assault, drive-by shooting, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The backstory:
The charges stem from a 2023 shooting on I-5 in SeaTac when Castro-Guzman opened fire from inside his Audi.
A bullet hit and paralyzed 38-year-old Bryan Dukes. The Pierce County man was on his way to work when the shooting took place.

Bryan Dukes and his family.
"I’m just continuing to do physical therapy at home and pushing boundaries in Redmond," said Bryan Dukes.
He tells FOX 13 the shooting and his paralysis have changed him and the way his family live their lives.
"It’s one inch at a time, one day at a time," said Dukes.
What they're saying:
In court, Bryan’s wife Angelica read an impact statement asking the judge to impose the maximum sentence.
"I will never forgive you," said Angelica, addressing Castro Guzman. "You took my husband’s mobility and my children’s childhood."
Castro-Guzma has a long list of priors. The Dukes asked the judge to run the sentences for the defendant consecutively, which would have doubled his time in prison to 20 years.
But instead of 20, he got 10.
According to charging documents, a tip to Crime Stoppers led to the identification and arrest of Castro-Guzman.
Castro-Guzman was seen in court wearing sunglasses Friday. The reason? He had been shot a month after shooting Bryan. That shooting incident left him blind.
In a sentencing memo, Castro-Guzman wrote: "I know how Mr. Dukes feels. Being shot and having your life changed completely is likely the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with."
