January dry spell to finally end in Seattle later this weekend

Rain is officially in the forecast after an extraordinarily long stretch of dry weather in Seattle. Showers look to return by Thursday evening, but stay tuned: the timing of the arrival of rain could change!

After another frigid start to the day where some communities plunged to the upper teens to low 20s, we expect highs to range slightly below average later today. Temperatures will crest into the mid 40s this afternoon under plentiful sunshine.

Cooler-than-normal weather is ongoing in Seattle on Saturday.

Over the next several days, there may be patchy freezing fog during the mornings. This could lead to slick spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Drive carefully this week and carve out extra time in the mornings to scrape the windshield before work. Today through Wednesday, we’re forecasting bountiful sunshine during the afternoons.

Dry, quiet and sunny weather continues in Seattle over the next three days.

Along the ski slopes, the evenings and mornings this week will be icy. The afternoons will be slushy over the slopes. Mercifully, snow returns to the mountains by Friday. There could be daily rounds of mountain snow through the first week of February!

There's a tiny chance for spotty snowy weather in the lowlands of Western Washington next weekend.

Many of you might be wondering if there’s any lowland snow on the horizon. The weather models are hinting at a rain/snow mix next weekend in some of the lower elevations of western Washington, but it looks fairly minor and isolated.

So far, the chances for lowland snow aren’t very impressive. But because there will be a combination of cool temperatures and moisture, we’ll have to watch that closely.

Wet weather is back in Seattle by this upcoming Friday.
