Widespread rain returns to Western Washington Monday morning.
SEATTLE - An approaching atmospheric river will bring significant rain and gusty winds to Western Washington from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
Widespread Monday morning rain will transition to on and off showers with sunbreaks for the afternoon. High temperatures will be close to average, in the mid to upper 40s.

An atmospheric river will take aim at Western Washington on Tuesday. As a leading warm front sweeps through, steady widespread rainfall will begin in the morning.

Models are coming together, bringing 1 to 2 inches of rain to the Puget Sound area.

Bottom line, it’s going to be a wet 18-hour period starting Tuesday late morning, with the heaviest rain arriving in the early morning hours on Wednesday leading the cold front. The Skokomish River is expected to reach moderate flood stage by Wednesday with several other rivers reaching action stage.

Snow levels will quickly rise in the mountains, but there is a chance of freezing rain from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning at the pass level. We will be keeping an eye on that.

Wind will also be a factor in this storm. Models are showing peak gusts in the 40–50 mph range for the usual gusty areas (north Puget Sound, coast, and Admiralty Inlet). Wind gusts of 30–45 mph are possible in the Central and South Sound. Peak gusts will occur late Tuesday into the early morning hours on Wednesday.
Wednesday afternoon through Saturday will bring a chance for showers, but there will be more dry time than wet with mild temperatures.
