Ammonia leak prompted shelter-in-place advisory in Mukilteo

An ammonia leak at Pacific Seafood in Mukilteo prompted a response from the Everett Fire Department and other Snohomish County Regional Hazmat members on Friday morning.

The incident occurred at 4520 107th St. SW, leading to a shelter-in-place advisory for neighboring businesses.

The Mukilteo Fire Department responded to the scene, working in collaboration with the regional hazmat team to address the situation. Roads in the immediate area were closed, and authorities urged the public to avoid the vicinity.

"Please keep clear of the area," the Everett Fire Department stated in a social media post.

Ammonia leaks can pose significant health risks, including respiratory issues and irritation to the eyes and skin. In the event of a shelter-in-place advisory due to an ammonia leak, residents and businesses are advised to:

  • Close all windows and doors to prevent outside air from entering.
  • Turn off ventilation systems, including heating and air conditioning units.
  • Stay indoors and move to an interior room, if possible, to minimize exposure.
  • Monitor local news and official social media channels for updates and further instructions.
