Seattle bus driver called 911 before being stabbed to death: docs

Richard Sitzlack, the man accused of stabbing Metro bus driver Shawn Yim to death, is now facing first-degree murder charges.

The case has gripped the Seattle community, with calls for new security measures on city busses, which is where Sitzlack was arrested over the weekend.

According to court documents, it was Yim himself who first tried to help police put Sitzlack in custody last Wednesday, near where he stopped his bus in the University District.

The man wanted for the murder of a Seattle metro driver was arrested a year ago for the murder of his roommate, but released due to a lack of evidence, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Cameras on the bus caught the moment Yim was pepper sprayed over an argument about an open window. Security video from nearby businesses showed Yim following Sitzlack for several minutes.

Detectives say Yim was on the phone with 911 the whole time, relaying Sitzlack's location. The dispatcher heard Yim say "please hurry" before there were sounds of a struggle.

He next tells the dispatcher, "I've been stabbed, I've been stabbed, hurry please."

The last thing Yim says in the recording is, "I'm dying right now, hurry please, hurry please."

Police were able to get Sitzlack's name from a homeless counselor, who was also on Yim's bus, and recognized Sitzlack from a local shelter.

Police then used fingerprints to match Sitzlack to the murder weapon.

However, there was no sign of Sitzlack, until two Metro drivers spotted him riding their buses.

After reading him his rights, detectives quoted Sitzlack as saying something to the effect of, "I'm sorry for what I did." He then asked for his lawyer.

Sitzlack is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on January 6.
