Safe stolen from West Seattle auto repair shop

No safe is safe. That’s the message from Todd Ainsworth, owner of Swedish Automotive Inc.

What they're saying:

Ainsworth is warning other businesses to bolt down safes after a recent burglary.

"I don’t know what they were after," Ainsworth told FOX 13. "But there was very little cash in there."

What was inside was a computer backup hard drive, 12 titles for loaner cars and an extra set of building keys.

"There were no vehicle keys in the safe," he said. "The real concern were those extra keys. The last thing we wanted was for the criminals to come back."

Ainsworth said he quickly had all the locks changed.

"The next thing to tackle is getting all new titles," he said.

The break-in happened Saturday, Feb. 1 around 4 a.m. Multiple security cameras show three masked individuals with hoods breaking into the building using various tools.

"They also cut open the back gate," said Ainsworth.

In total, three windows were broken.

"This is the window they used to throw the safe out of," said Ainsworth.

The safe weighs about 80 pounds.

"We would just like it back," he said.

Police are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact Seattle Police. The case number is 2025-029750.

In the meantime, Ainsworth is reminding people to safeguard their safes.

"Bolt it down to the ground if you can," he said. "Or make sure it’s really heavy."
