Seattle's Pier 70, home to MTV's 'The Real World,' sold for $11M
SEATTLE - The iconic Pier 70 on Seattle’s waterfront, famously featured in MTV’s "The Real World" Season 7, has been sold, according to a Deed of Trust filed with King County on Jan. 14.
According to The Seattle Times, the pier was purchased by Landmark Event Co. for $11 million.
What we know:
The pier, one of only four privately owned piers on Seattle's downtown waterfront, became a pop culture landmark after hosting the 1998 season of the long-running reality show. The season introduced viewers to seven cast members navigating life together while working as "modulators" for alternative rock radio station KNDD-FM, 107.7 The End.
The show marked several firsts for the franchise, including featuring cast members who had previously known each other. David and Nathan, both cadets at the Virginia Military Institute, added a unique dynamic to the series.
By the numbers:
According to county records, Landmark Event Co. acquired two parcels as part of the sale. The front parcel includes the pier itself, home to office spaces and restaurants, and the second parcel backs up to the water. The pier last changed hands in 1995, selling for just $276,316.
Built in 1902, Pier 70 has seen various transformations, from a functional port to a commercial hub. Renovations in 1999 turned it into a retail and restaurant destination that attracted locals and tourists alike.
While King County valued the combined parcels at over $37 million in 2024, the sale price reflects market conditions amid significant leasing vacancies. The site, currently 36% leased, includes a 116-space parking garage and approximately 70,000 square feet of vacant space, offering leasing potential for the new owner.
Pier '70’s nostalgic role in "The Real World" continues to be a cherished part of its identity, as fans fondly remember the seven castmates who turned the historic waterfront into their temporary home.
