Philly plane crash: 76ers, Eagles pay tribute, thank first responders

All of the professional Philadelphia sports teams paid tribute following a devastating plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening.

The 76ers also paid tribute to the victims of the deadly plane crash in Washington, D.C. earlier this week. 

Seen on the big screen just before the basketball game on Friday, a message in large white letters on a black background read:  

"In memory of those lost to the tragedy in Washington, DC. and Philadelphia."

The team then posted once again on its X account, saying: 

"Prior to tonight’s game, we learned of a plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia. While we await more information, we send our thoughts and prayers to all of those impacted. We also extend our gratitude to the first responders on-site for their efforts this evening."

Also on Friday, the Eagles reacted to the deadly crash, saying the organization was "heartbroken." 

"The Eagles organization was heartbroken to learn of the tragic loss of life earlier this evening as a result of the plant crash in Northeast Philadelphia. We extend our condolences to the victims and loved ones they leave behind. We are grateful to the first responders for their heroic actions at the scene."

Additionally, the Philadelphia Flyers extended their deepest sympathies for all those impacted and thanked the city's first responders.

And, the Phillies also contributed their thoughts and prayers to everyone impacted.

The Philadelphia Union also took to social media to express their sorrow over the events and to thank first responders.

What happened

Hundreds of firefighters and first responders have descended on Northeast Philadelphia after a plane crash late Friday afternoon. 

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at Cottman Avenue and Bustleton Avenue near the Roosevelt Mall. 

Six people were aboard the Learjet 55, including one pediatric patient.
