Here's what's open, closed in Seattle on New Year's Day
SEATTLE - Heading into 2025, many are wondering which places in Seattle will be open and which will be closed on New Year's Day.
While some businesses are taking a hiatus for the holiday, others will remain open.
Keep reading for a list of places that will be open and closed in Seattle on Wednesday, January 1.
Banks
Most banks will be closed on New Year's Day, although mobile banking services and ATMs will still be available.
Grocery and retail stores
- Costco - Closed
- Albertsons - Open (reduced hours)
- Fred Meyer/QFC - Open (stores may vary)
- Target - Open (store hours may vary)
- Walmart - Open
- Rite Aid - Closed
- CVS/Walgreens - Open (store hours vary)
- Home Depot/Lowe's - Open (limited hours)
- Macy's - Open
- Nordstrom - Open
- Walmart - Open
- Trader Joe's - Closed
If you're unsure about any of the closures on the list, be sure to call the business first to confirm its hours.
Mail delivery
While USPS and FedEx will not be sending or delivering any mail on Wednesday, UPS Domestic Ground, Air and International will still be in operation.
Court and government offices
All federal offices will be closed, but some at the state government level may still be open.
Courts may also be closed, but you should check your local branch beforehand.
Transit and ferries
King County Metro buses and Sound Transit will operate on Sunday schedules on New Year's Day.
Ferries will operate as normal, although the 8:30 p.m. sailing from Port Townsend and the 9:10 p.m. from Coupeville are canceled due to tidal conditions.
Parking
Street parking is free in Seattle on New Year's Day.
