High school in Monroe, WA closed Monday after small fire breaks out
MONROE, Wash. - Monroe High School (MHS) closed after a small fire broke out inside the building Monday morning.
The school made the initial announcement on Facebook at around 7:30 a.m. saying school would be closed Monday, Dec. 9.
Officials say the small fire involved a light fixture in the school commons. At the time of the Facebook post, fire crews were on site working to clear the building. Since the work would take some time, the school decided to close for the remainder of the day.
MHS said that students currently riding buses will return to their designated stops. Some buses will return to these stops after completing middle school drop-offs.
"We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff," MHS wrote in a Facebook post.
