Man armed with knife flees from officers into Lumen Field, arrested

A man armed with a knife was arrested in Lumen Field after fleeing from Seattle officers, and swallowed fentanyl powder after police found him.

What we know:

Seattle police say the pursuit started on Thursday at 2 a.m. near 3rd Avenue and Pike Street in downtown.

Officers spotted a 49-year-old man who had a felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm. He also had misdemeanor warrants for false reporting, theft, making false statements, and making/possessing motor vehicle theft tools, according to SPD.

Police say he quickly fled on a bicycle, but was later spotted near 4th Avenue and Jackson Street. The suspect eventually dumped the bicycle after officers chased him southbound, and ran towards the northeast corner of Lumen Field.

Lumen Field's security notified police dispatch that the suspect was hiding between several barriers inside the stadium.

Officers said once they eventually found him, the suspect purposefully swallowed fentanyl powder in front of them.

After the suspect removed himself from the barriers, police say he was arrested while armed with an illegal fixed-blade knife.

Police say the suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation due to the fentanyl powder he ingested. Afterward, he was booked into King County Jail for obstructing a police officer, tampering with physical evidence, furtively carrying a dangerous weapon and his felony warrant.
