Landslides, flooding close major WA highways on Olympic Peninsula
SEATTLE - People living along the Washington Coast are now stuck without an easy way to go east, after landslides and high waters have closed major state highways.
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, US 101 is closed both directions at Lake Crescent due to a landslide. At the same time, SR 112 is closed near SR 113 due to high water. It is not yet known when the highways are expected to reopen.
This would likely require people to drive all the way down to Aberdeen and circle back up to head east — but that might not be feasible, either.
Grays Harbor County Emergency Management reports a flood watch will be in effect Wednesday night through Thursday night, with excessive rainfall slamming the Peninsula. The National Weather Service's flood watch expires 10:00 p.m. Thursday, but it could be extended if the heavy rainfall continues.
