Dramatic footage from around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, shows a concerned motorist rescuing a lost dog spotted running along a freeway in El Paso, Texas.
EL PASO, Texas - A driver in Texas is being credited as a hero after stopping and rescuing a dog found running along a freeway.
What we know:
Dramatic footage showed the lost dog along the highway in El Paso around 3 a.m. local time on February 26.
Luis Vargas told Storyful he saw the dog while driving home from work. At first, he said he thought it was a tire rolling on the freeway in the distance.
Vargas said he cut on his hazard lights and realized it was a dog. He followed the dog to make sure no other cars hit her.

He then stopped, got out of his car and lured the dog to his vehicle.
He then brought the dog home and uploaded a video on social media, asking for the public's help in recognizing the lost pet.
Vargas said the next day, Vargas said the owners showed up at his door to claim his dog.
What we don't know:
It's not known how the dog ended up on the freeway.
