Coyote attacks 5-year-old boy in Renton, WA

A five-year-old boy was bitten by a coyote in the Maplewood Heights neighborhood of Renton on Tuesday evening, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The attack happened around 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve when the coyote attacked the child, biting him in the upper body and attempting to drag him to a nearby greenbelt.

The child's mother intervened, rushing at the coyote, which caused the animal to release the boy.

The coyote remained in the area until WDFW officers arrived. Officers said they tried to capture the coyote, but it fled into a nearby forested area.

The child was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries and was released later that evening.
