18th birthday vigil held for teen shot and killed at Seattle's Garfield High School

Family and friends of Amarr Murphy-Paine gathered at Garfield High School to honor the teen on what would have been his 18th birthday on Monday.

Murphy-Paine was shot and killed while trying to break up a fight at his school on June 6.

The 17-year-old student who was fatally shot in the parking lot of Seattle's Garfield High School has been identified.

Murphy-Paine's loved ones spent the day sharing memories of the high school football player, and then handed out hygiene kits and blankets to those in need at 12th and Jackson in honor of him.

"We're honoring the 17 years of life that he had on earth here," said Arron Murphy-Paine, Amarr's father.

Though Murphy-Paine's murder was caught on camera, the person who shot him has not been taken into custody.

Seattle Police say multiple people witnessed the tragedy, and they encourage anyone with information to call the SPD Violent Crimes tip line at (206) 233-5000.
