SEATTLE - More than 100 firefighters battled an intense building fire in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood this morning that left one woman injured.
Timeline:
According to Seattle Fire, the call came in around 6:20 a.m. on Sunday morning. Neighbors were reporting seeing flames come through the roof of the building on Northwest 54th Street across from Gilman playground.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they say flames were coming through all three floors of the building.
Initially, this was a two-alarm fire. However, after seeing how aggressive the flames were, Seattle Fire upgraded the response to a three-alarm.
What they're saying:
"The building that was under construction that was involved in the fire has completely collapsed - from the third floor down to the first. All that is remaining is the exterior walls," said David Cuerpo with the Seattle Fire Department.
The fire then started to spread to a townhome next door containing eight residential units.
Anna Tomita lived in one of the townhomes. She told FOX 13 she woke up to smoke and bright lights.
"I woke up to debris sparking and hitting my window," she said. "When I looked out the window, the flames were covering the construction."
Tomita said she was on the phone with 911 when she realized she was trapped with nowhere to go.
"It was a wall of fire," she said. "I was on the phone for 10 minutes with 911 and then the firefighters rushed in and grabbed me."

Firefighters evacuated all the townhomes before anyone could be seriously hurt.
Throughout the day Friday fire crews remained on scene, putting out hotspots and flareups with water.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Ballard construction site fire spreads to residential units on Feb. 9, 2025.
