WA Avalanche Warning in effect for Cascades

The Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) issued warnings for both Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes due to snow and wind, creating very dangerous conditions for large avalanches.

FOX 13 Meteorologist Claire Anderson reported Wednesday night that an Avalanche Warning was in effect for the Cascades due to heavy snow and strong winds.

In addition to the Avalanche Warning, there is a Winter Storm Warning for the Cascades through Thursday evening for additional heavy snow and dangerous conditions. The higher peaks could see up to 30" of new snow through Thursday night.

On Thursday morning, FOX 13's Shawn Chitnis was monitoring the conditions over Snoqualmie Pass, where travel was challenging.

Also on Thursday morning, eastbound I-90 was closed fpr a few hours at Milepost 46 in North Bend due to multiple spinouts and crashes.

When traveling over the passes, chains are required except for all-wheel drive, and the NWAC is asking drivers to avoid travel along flat or low angle areas beneath large steep slopes.
