Homicide investigation underway after body discovered in home of man shot by Sequim police in traffic stop
Authorities are investigating a shooting that left an officer and a suspect injured after a traffic stop Thursday morning.
SEQUIM, Wash. - Authorities are investigating a shooting that left an officer and a suspect injured after a traffic stop Thursday morning.
According to a press release from the Kitsap Critical Incident Response Team, at 4:31 a.m. a Sequim police officer pulled over a driver at the intersection of W. Washington St. and N. Third Ave. in Sequim.
Six minutes later, a Clallam County sheriff’s deputy arrived to assist the police officer. Authorities say at some point during the stop, an officer fired his weapon.
Two Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene to assist the Sequim officer.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and later booked into Clallam County Jail.
The man who fired at officers is a suspect in a murder investigation, according to the Clallam County Sheriff's Office.
After the shooting, officers received a request for a welfare check on a woman in an area of unincorporated Clallam County. When officers arrived, they found the woman dead inside.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide.
After the suspect's arrest for the shooting, investigators learned the home where the woman was found was the suspect's residence. He is considered a person of interest.

The Kitsap Critical Incident Response Team, a team made up of ten law enforcement agencies from across the region, is handling the investigation.
