Everett middle school stabbing suspect has past robbery, assault convictions

Court documents reveal that 21-year-old Andrew Freeman, who is wanted for allegedly stabbing a teen in Everett last week, has recent convictions for robbery and assault.

Everett police are still looking for Freeman, who was identified as the suspect in the stabbing of a 13-year-old boy while he was walking to school. The victim is still recovering from his injuries. But, court records show this would not be Freeman's first run-in with the law, with convictions in 2022 and 2023 for second-degree robbery and third-degree assault.

Timeline:

According to court documents, Freeman tried to rob a 69-year-old woman in Federal Way at the Safeway on SW 336th St on June 9, 2022. At the time, he was living in the 7000 block of Jefferson St in Everett.

He approached her from behind at 8:15 a.m. at an ATM where she had just removed $200 in cash, attempted to grab her purse and punched her arm several times to get her to give it up.

Her granddaughter came to her aid and tried to pull him away by his jacket to stop him. He swung a closed fist at her, narrowly missing her. Witnesses started yelling for him to stop and for someone to call the police. He calmly picked up his backpack and walked away.

Officers found him in a nearby bus shelter and arrested him.

On December 20, 2022, Freeman pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted robbery, writing, "I did unlawfully and with the intent to commit a felony take a substantial step towards taking the victim's purse money from her person and in her presence by the use of threatened use of immediate force, violence and fear of injury to her and to her property. I did this by approaching her near an ATM and striking her."

Judge Pro Tem Renee Walls sentenced him to two and a half months in jail and to pay $600 in restitution to the victim. At the time, he had no offender score for any previous convictions and the standard sentencing range was 2.25–6.75 months in jail for the crime.

He also has four misdemeanor convictions for graffiti in Everett in 2023, as well as resisting arrest and obstructing police.

Freeman is six feet tall and weighs 180 lbs. Call 911 if you see him.
