Landslide suspends Amtrak service between Seattle, Vancouver BC
SEATTLE - Amtrak service from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C. has been temporarily suspended due to a landslide blocking the rail tracks.
According to traffic officials, a slide covered tracks near White Rock, British Columbia — just minutes north of the U.S.-Canadian border. BNSF Railway has put a 48-hour suspension on passenger service between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. while crews work to clear the blockage.
For passengers with tickets, Amtrak will provide bus transportation during the cleanup process.
On Thursday, Dec. 19:
- Northbound train 516: Bus transportation to Vancouver, B.C.
- Southbound train 517: Bus transportation between Vancouver, B.C., and Seattle
- Northbound train 518: Bus transportation between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.
- Southbound train 519: Bus transportation to Seattle
On Friday, Dec. 20:
- Southbound train 517: Bus transportation between Vancouver, B.C., and Seattle
- Northbound train 516: Amtrak service is expected to resume in Bellingham
Officials anticipate that service will resume by around 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Customers who wish to change their reservation may do so free of charge.
