AMBER ALERT: Police search for abducted 2-year-old boy
UPDATED>>> Missing boy has been found
DES MOINES — Police have issued an Amber Alert and are looking for a missing two-year-old boy who was abducted along with his mother Tuesday afternoon.
Des Moines law enforcement officers say 2-year-old Ronnie D. Tran was taken around noon Tuesday from his home in the 24000 block of 13th Place South.
Tran is Asian, about 40 pounds and 2-and-a-half feet tall, police said. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing red-and-white checkered pants.
Police believe Tran is with his maternal grandmother, 65-year-old Vien Nguyen. Nguyen is a 5’5″ Asian female and possibly armed with a stun device, officials said. She has allegedly made threats to harm the child.
According to officers, Tran’s mother were gagged, stunned with a device and bound at her home and abducted along with Tran to a different location. There, she was tied to a cupboard in the garage. The mother was able to escape the location without the boy, who was taken to another location. Once she escaped she called a family member, and police were not notified until 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
Police arrested one woman in the case, officials said. Tran was believed to be traveling in a blue 2005 Hyundai Sonata 4-door, but that car was found.
Police fear the child may still be endangered because of the manner in which he was kidnapped.
