14-year-old dies in South Seattle, mother arrested

Seattle police have arrested a mother after her 14-year-old son died at Harborview Medical Center following an altercation on Thursday.

What we know:

Police say they responded to an altercation at an apartment complex along 14th Avenue South in South Seattle around 2:17 p.m.

Officers say they located a 14-year-old boy unresponsive, suffering from multiple injuries. He was provided aid at the scene and taken to Harborview, but later died in the hospital.

The victim's 29-year-old mother was arrested for investigation of homicide and booked into King County Jail.

What we don't know:

It's currently unknown what led up to the altercation, or what injuries the teen boy sustained.

This remains an active investigation. Detectives with SPD's Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit have been assigned to this case.
